Turneffe Atoll Snorkel Adventure

This holiday offers some spectacular snorkelling to a wide variety of sites in a remote a location. Blackbird Caye is located at the edge of Turneffe Atoll which is situated approx. 25 miles off the coast of Belize. The Atoll is a protected marine reserve and forms part of the barrier reef the longest reef system in the Western hemisphere.

Your stay includes two guided boat snorkel trips to different sites each day, there are many sites under 15 feet in depth. You will also have the opportunity to do a daytrip to the visit and snorkel the Blue Hole (weather permitting) plus two more spectacular sites at Lighthouse Reef Atoll and a chance to set foot on Half Moon Caye and see the rare red footed boobies that nest there.

The lodge is reached by speedboat from Belize City and you will have a 7 night stay at the resort. Meals are included and when not snorkelling you can relax and enjoy the beachfront location, explore the local waters with kayaks and paddleboard or relax in the pool.

Who is this trip for? It is ideal for enthusiastic snorkellers that want to visit spectacular sites that are untouched and less visited. It is also ideal for couples, groups or families that may have some that dive and some that snorkel. Day to Day

Below is an example day by day itinerary

Day 1

Fly from London to US. Overnight in US (Room only).

Day 2

Fly to Belize International Airport. Met on arrival and transferred to Belize Biltmore Hotel.

Day 3

You will be met by a representative from Blackbird Caye and transferred to the nearby marina. In the afternoon you will transfer by speedboat to Blackbird Caye with others travelling to the lodge. Journey time will be between and 1.5 hours and 2 hours. Overnight Blackbird Caye (Dinner included)

Day 4

You will have a guided boat snorkel in the morning and afternoon. Each snorkel will last for at least one hour. There are over 20 different snorkel sites nearby most are in within depths of around 15ft. To the south of Blackbird Caye is Soldier Caye which is a 5 acre island, around the island there is pillar coral, finger coral, knobby brain coral, you may see Caribbean squid, barracudas, nurse sharks, and lots of different species of parrot fish and other tropical species. The Fisherman's cut is a submerged channel with excellent visibility. Depth is around 12 feet. You will see different rose coral, reef sharks, stingrays, juvenile grouper, lobster, and snapper.

Day 6

Guided snorkel trips in morning and afternoon to different snorkel sites. One of the days you will join a trip to the famous Blue Hole. You will snorkel around the rim of the sink hole. There are schools of southern sennet, blennies, damsel fish, gobies, trumpet fish, juvenile fishes, and sometimes reef sharks and black tip sharks. You will have lunch on Half Moon Caye and then snorkel the Aquarium with it's abundant marine life. Overnight Blackbird Caye (BLD)

Day 9

Guided snorkel trips in morning and afternoon to different snorkel sites. On Friday you may visit the Elbow which is about a 25 minute boat journey away. Cabbage Patch: is in around 15 feet of water. The site has Lettuce Coral, scorpion fish, eagle rays cruising to the wall, stingrays, juvenile grouper, and polarized fish (cleaner fish that move fast) which attract rainbow parrot fish to get cleaned. Billy Bob is in around 18 feet of water. There are a lot of canyons, it is a good to free dive with polarize fish, Tarpon and nurse sharks, spotted toadfish, snappers, and other tropical fish. Day 10

Depart by speedboat back to Belize City, then be transferred to Belize International Airport. Depart on your international flight back to the UK via US.
