Mystic River is a small, intimate lodge that has been designed to ensure guests fully appreciate the rainforest surrounds. The six cottages each have a beautiful view towards the banks of the Macal River.
Getting there The lodge is in the Cayo district and is approx. 2 hours ground transfer from Belize City.
Rooms There are five Riverview suites that overlook the river, each have King Bed, fireplace and private balcony with table and chairs. The Purple Heart Suite is larger and has a separate bedroom and living area with private patio.
Dining occurs in the beautiful open air restaurant with further views over the river. Meals can be selected from the menu and the chef does a nightly special. A coffee basket can be brought to your room in the morning. There is a separate bar area and Wifi is available at the bar and dining area.
Activities: Guests have complimentary use of canoes, tubes and boogie boards on the river. Within the grounds there are a number of marked trails, several leading to lookouts and others down to the river, there is a small plunge pool onsite with loungers, and the resort also keep their own horses.
Our comment: The suites are spacious and stylish, yet cosy. The location of Mystic River is ideal with its rainforest setting and yet is easily accessible to all the activities in the Cayo. Owners Tom and Nadege are warm and welcoming hosts that ensure their guests are well looked after. An unexpected attraction is the bird table that draws a number of beautiful birds at breakfast, including the rare Emerald Toucanet and the Blue Crowned Motmot.
