The Lodge at Big Falls

Big Falls Village

The Lodge at Big Falls is situated in a jungle clearing on the banks of the Rio Grande river which meanders around the property. It is a small, friendly lodge with accommodation in just 9 individual cabanas.

Rooms There are 6 thatched cabanas that are situated in the clearing towards the river, the cabanas are thatched with bay-leaf palm, have tiled floors, ceiling fans and windows are screened. Rooms are spacious and have a double bed, or a double and a single. There is a family room with double bed and bunk beds. In addition to the thatched cabanas are three hardwood cabanas that have air-conditioning and are situated towards the entrance of the lodge near the dining area. These rooms have two queen beds, a fridge and a microwave.

Dining Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the dining area in the main lodge. At dinner there are several choices for a three course meal that changes daily.

Onsite Activities There is a swimming pool on the grounds, also table tennis and badminton. Guests have access to kayaks and river tubes and can enter the river from one point at the lodge and gently float around the river loop to exit on the other side of the lodge (weather permitting).

Nearby Excursions include the excellent Living Maya Experience in nearby Big Falls village, mayan sites of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit, chocolate making at Ixcacao and kayaking on the Rio Grande.

Our comment: The lodge has a lovely setting and is a great place to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature and many birds on the grounds. It also is an excellent base to enjoy the many cultural, nature based and adventure activities in the lesser visited Toledo region.
