Turneffe Atoll is the largest and most biologically diverse atoll in the western hemisphere. The atoll is located 30 miles from the mainland of Belize and Turneffe Flats is situated on the northeastern side of the atoll, on a sandy point in 25 acres of private grounds. The lodge has only 8 beach cabanas and two villas on a white sand beach with coconut palms. It is an area renowned for excellent diving and snorkelling, as well as flats fishing.
Getting there is by boat that departs from Belize City and the journey takes approx. 90 minutes. The sea can get choppy once the boat is outside the protection of the reef.
Rooms The 8 beach cabanas are spacious rooms with air-conditioning, ensuite bathrooms, two queen sized beds and each has a view of the coral reef. There are also two villas, the bedrooms in the villas share access to a lounge with satellite TV and small kitchenette. The Reef Villa is situated on the beach and has a view of the reef in both directions. The Garden Villa is set back slightly from the beach and has views of the gardens and Caribbean Sea.
Dining Breakfast, lunch and dinner are eaten communally with other guests and are served in the main lodge at set times. Meals are a combination of Belizean and international cuisine.
Facilities There is a small, infinity pool with sun deck and loungers. There is also a bar, sitting area, gift and fly shop.
Activities and Excursions Seven day packages to the islands are available for snorkelling, diving and fishing and run from Saturday to Saturday. Turneffe Flats is a PADI dive resort, and with 60 dive sites accessible on Turneffe Atoll and the Blue Hole and Lighthouse Reef only an hours boat ride, this resort is a very popular divers destination. The diving package includes daily diving, a three tank dive to the Blue Hole and Lighthouse Reef (weather permitting) and a night dive. For snorkellers there are also numerous excellent sites easily accessible by boat, and snorkellers can accompany the divers to the Blue Hole. The flats are renowned for bone fishing and Turneffe is one of the few places where you have the possibility to catch Permit, Tarpon and Bonefish in one day.
