Adventure in Belize

Visit the Cayo district and have some adventures in the jungle. There you will take an unforgettable journey into the Mayan underworld by entering the cave of Actun Tunichil Muknal. The trip includes a 45 minute hike to the entrance of cave, then short swim and climb over rocks and deep into the cave to reach the caverns which the ancient Mayans used for ceremonial purposes. The following day you take a leisurely float through a series of caves in an inner tube and end the day with a series of ziplines through the jungle. Another day you hike deep into the rainforest to abseil a sinkhole, called the Black Hole as you cannot see the bottom when you start your descent which is 200 feet above the jungle canopy

Next travel to nearby Guatemala for an overnight stay in the protected rainforest surrounding the well excavated and fascinating Mayan Site of Tikal. Climbing the temples affords stunning views of this forest that is a haven to a diversity of birdlife and wildlife including toucans, oropendulas, howler monkeys, spider monkeys and coatis. Then transfer along the scenic Hummingbird Highway to stay in a jungle lodge in the Mayflower Bocawina Park. Experience the zipline adventure course onsite and hike the three waterfalls

Then take a short propeller flight to the laid back island of Caye Caulker to relax for a few days or experience the spectacular snorkelling and diving of the Belize Barrier Reef. You may see Eagle Rays, nurse sharks and turtles as well as an array of tropical fish and coral.

These prices are excluding international flights. Average flight prices to Belize range from £750 per person to over £1,000 per person at peak times (Christmas, Easter and Summer). Flight routes vary, quickest routes are via Miami, Houston or Atlanta and require a night stopover on the outbound journey and connecting overnight flights on the return. Day to Day

Below is an example day by day itinerary

Day 1

International flight to US. Overnight in nearby airport hotel (Room only).

Day 2

Fly from US to Belize City. Met and transferred to Pook's Hill Lodge in Cayo district (approx. 2 hours). Overnight at Pook's Hill Lodge (BLD). Onsite activities include swimming in the creek, early morning guided bird walks and night walks (D).

Day 3

Tour to ATM Cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal), this is an energetic and exhiliarating trip that combines adventure with archaeology as you venture deep into the cave following your guide and with a headlamp to light the way. Once you climb up into the main cavern you will walk among the remains of Mayan pots broken in rituals to the gods, and skeletal remains in burial chambers. Overnight Pook's Hill (BLD).

Day 4

Today you will go cave tubing on the Caves Branch River where you will float leisurely through a series of caves, on an inner tube, with a headlamp to guide you. Overnight Pook's Hill (BLD)

Day 5

Tour to Black Hole drop, take a hike into the jungle and abseil through the jungle canopy to reach the bottom of this sinkhole. Overnight Pook's Hill (BLD).

Day 6

Guided tour of Tikal Mayan Ruins in nearby Guatemala before staying overnight at the Jungle Lodge in the Tikal National Park (BLD). Tikal Mayan Ruins have been extensively excavated, though still set amongst dense jungle with a diversity of birds and wildlife. Although simple,the jungle lodge has a fantastic location close to the park, howler monkeys may wake you in the night with their territorial howl and spider monkeys can be found hanging out in the trees around the pool (BLD).

Day 7

Transfer back across the border to Belize and stop for lunch at a restaurant on the way, then continue transfer along the scenic Hummingbird Highway to the Bocawina Rainforest Resort which has a unique location within the Mayflower Bocawina Park. Overnight at Bocawina Rainforest Resort (BLD).

Day 8

Waterfall Rappelling Expedition Tour, a guided hike up the 100 foot falls and abseil down the falls. Along the route the guide will point out flora and fauna. Good fitness required (BLD).

Day 9

Adventure Canopy Zipline course where you will fly through the jungle canopy on 12 different zipline platforms. After lunch you will be transferred to nearby Dangriga town and take two short propeller flights to Caye Caulker via Belize City. Overnight Seaside Cabanas (B).

Day 10

Days at leisure to relax and enjoy the laid back island vibe of Caye Caulker where the motto is "Go Slow". Experience the spectacular underwater world of the Belize Barrier Reef. Snorkelling and diving trips can take place to nearby reefs, fishing trips, ocean kayaking and paddle boarding can be arranged. Overnight Seaside Cabanas (B).

Day 11

Day at leisure. Overnight Seaside Cabanas (B).

Day 12

Day at leisure. Overnight at Seaside Cabanas (B).

Day 13

Fly back to Belize International Airport to connect with international flight back to UK.
